Tamil Nadu Records 1,630 New COVID Cases Along With 23 Fatalities, Highest Fresh Infections In Coimbatore

1,827 people were discharged after recovery from both private and government hospitals across Tamil Nadu. 

Chennai: Tamil Nadu reported 1,630 new novel coronavirus cases on Sunday taking the total number of active cases in the state to 19,171. According to a media bulletin released on Sunday, Coimbatore recorded the highest number of novel coronavirus-positive patients with 198 people testing positive for the virus followed by Chennai with 177 people and Erode with 146 people testing positive in the state.

Thanjavur recorded 108 people testing positive while 96 patients tested positive in the Chengalpattu district. Meanwhile, 1,827 people were discharged after recovery from both private and government hospitals across Tamil Nadu. 

On Sunday, the state recorded 23 deaths, including 20 deaths in government hospitals and 3 deaths in private hospitals of novel coronavirus patients. Of the total deaths, four people did not have any comorbidities while 19 patients suffered from comorbidities. A 35-year-old male patient from Thoothukudi with no comorbidities was brought dead to the Government Stanley Hospital in Chennai on August 21. A novel coronavirus test on the patient on August 11 revealed that the patient was positive for the virus. However, the patient died due to COVID-19 Pneumonia even before receiving medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced that the Health Department will provide round-the-clock vaccination services at government colleges and hospitals for the people who were unable to take the COVID-19 shots starting from Monday.

In Chennai, the service will be provided at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Royapettah, Tamil Nadu Government Multi-Super Specialty Hospital in Omandurar, Stanley Medical College Hospital and Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

The government is expecting office-goers and people stepping out for their routine works every day to take the vaccines to avoid the spread of novel coronavirus.
