Tamil Nadu Man Committing Crime Over 25 Years in Delhi Arrested In Connaught Place

The arrested accused has been identified as Ranganathan, a resident of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu.

New Delhi: A 47-year-old man, said to be a member of the infamous ‘Thak-Thak’ gang of Connaught Place in Delhi, has been arrested, police said on Sunday.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police Amrutha Guguloth, a police constable came across the suspected person during routine patrolling in the Connaught Place area on Saturday.

“When the suspect was questioned about his identity, he was not able to give a satisfactory reply,” news agency IANS quoted DCP Amrutha Guguloth as saying.

On a cursory search, a switch-blade knife was recovered from the possession of the person. Accordingly, the police registered an FIR against him under section 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and began their investigation.

The arrested accused has been identified as Ranganathan, a resident of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu.

During sustained interrogation, the accused confessed to be a member of the ‘Thak-Thak’ gang operating in Delhi and has been previously involved in 18 cases of theft.

It was also revealed that he has been a member of this infamous gang for over 25 years.

"He used to commit crimes as part of a gang and robbed people of their bags etc by distracting them. The accused is a habitual criminal and used to return to Tamil Nadu after the commission of offences," the official further said.
