Chennai: During the legislative assembly that was held last September, Chief Minister MK Stalin announced that the prize money of Rs 10 lakhs will be awarded to the villages that set an example for the eradication of caste.

In this context, the government of Tamil Nadu has passed a GO stating that the government has allocated Rs 11 crore intending to dole out Rs 10 lakh to the villages having caste-neutral cemeteries.

“Caste-neutral cemeteries are still functioning in many villages in Tamil Nadu. These villages, which are setting an example that even the final journey of a person must not be discriminated against based on caste, will be awarded Rs 10 lakhs as an incentive on behalf of the government to implement developmental works in the villages," said CM MK Stalin in an Assembly session.

As per the statement above, the government has passed the GO. In the first phase, at the rate of 3 villages per district, 111 villages in 37 districts will be given a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs each -- totalling Rs 11.1 crores -- and the allocation has been made for the same, reports ABP Nadu.

Earlier, Stalin had said in the assembly that the ruling DMK is a government that works for the oppressed. He also quoted Thiruvalluvar's "All men that live are one in circumstances of birth" (pirappokkum ella uyirkkum) and said that we should all live together according to this unparalleled philosophy, and urged everyone to work together.
