Tamil Nadu Govt Forms Committee To Monitor Implementation Of Centrally-Sponsored Schemes

The Chief Minister and the Minister for Rural Development will be the chairperson and co-chairperson of the committee. The committee also includes MPs, MLAs and other stakeholders.

Chennai: With the Chief Minister as the chairperson and the Minister for Rural Development as the co-chairperson, the Tamil Nadu government has formed a committee to monitor the implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes in the state. The committee also includes MLAs, MPs and other stakeholders. 

According to a report in the Hindu, Member of Parliaments from various political parties including DMK, AIADMK, Congress, CPI, CPM and VCK, MLAs from DMK, AIADMK and Congress, senior government officials from various departments, nominees of the central government and representatives from the civil society were part of the committee. The secretary of the rural development and panchayat raj department would be the member secretary of the committee.

The committee would monitor the implementation of the centrally-sponsored schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme, National Rural Livelihood Mission and other programmes that are part of the ministry of rural development. 

The report said that the committee would review the status of implementation of the decisions taken at the district level committees, deployment and effectiveness of the manpower engaged by the state government to execute the schemes. 

This apart, it would also address the issues related to implementation of the schemes, provide recommendations to improve the designs of the programmes and review the fund flow of the programme, as per the report. 

The Chief Minister MK Stalin would chair a meeting every six months to review the functionings of the committee.
