Tamil Nadu: Five Killed, 10 Injured In Firecracker Factory Blast In Madurai

An explosion occurred in a private firecracker factory near Usilambatti in the Madurai district Thursday. The Madurai SP confirmed that five people died in the incident. Another 10 injured in the explosion were admitted to a nearby government hospital in the district. 

The deceased have been identified as Ammavasi, Vallarasu, Gopi, Viki and Prema. The private firecracker factory was reportedly owned by Valaiyappan. 

A police team reached the spot upon knowing about the incident. After the preliminary investigation, the police learnt that the owner of the firecracker factory is Valaiyappan. Further investigation is underway.

As reported earlier in September, in a span of one month after Tamil Nadu was hit by a massive explosion at Neyveli Lignite Power Plant, at least seven people have been killed and several are said to be injured at a firecracker factory in Cuddalore district on Friday, as per the latest information.

As per the initial reports, the intensity of the blast was such that it impacted the structure bringing it down. As per reports, police and firefighters have been rushed to the accident site, an investigation has been launched to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

Earlier in July, the incident at Neyveli Lignite Power Plant took place in which a massive explosion in a boiler in stage -2 of the Neyveli lignite plant claimed at least five lives and severely injured 17 persons. This blast was the second explosion at the power plant within two months.
