This is not the first such incident in the Tamil Nadu district.
Earlier, in January this year, four people died and two sustained injuries in a similar fire accident in a fireworks manufacturing unit.
As per reports, two of the employees were in a room where they were mixing chemicals, that led to the fire breaking out due to friction and spread quickly.
The fire and rescue service officials were immediately pressed into service and the flames were eventually put out.
Offering his condolences, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to those injured.
In a similar incident in the same month, five people were killed and eight others sustained severe injuries due to an explosion at a firecracker factory. After this incident, CM Stalin had announced the same amount of compensation to the bereaved families.
Notably, both the accidents took place at firecracker units that hold a licence.
A police official had said that both the accidents had taken place due to negligence, especially when both the units had licences and proper fire safety norms in place.
