Tamil Nadu: DVAC Raids 26 Places Linked To AIADMK Ex-MLA KPP Baskar

KPP Baskar is an associate of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.  

Chennai: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption started to raid 26 places related to AIADMK former MLA KPP Baskar, his associates, and his relatives for allegedly accumulating disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 4.72 crore during his office, on Friday. The DVAC started to conduct raids in 26 places in Namakkal, Madurai and Tiruppur districts on Friday morning.

Baskar is an associate of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK interim general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami.  

In a press release, DVAC said, "The former MLA of Namakkal KPP Baskar accumulated disproportionate assets to the tune Rs 4.72 crore in his name, the name of his wife Uma and other associate firms He accumulated excess assets upto 315%."

Therefore, DVAC said, a case was registered against KPP Baskar under section 13(2) r/w, 13 (1) (e), 109 r/w (13) (2) r/w 13 (1) (b) and 12 r/w 13 (2) r/w 13 (1) (b) of PC Act 1988 by Namakkal police on Thursday.  

As a result, DVAC said, "They have started raids at 26 places (Namakkal-24, Madurai-1, Tiruppur-1) in the residences of KPP Baskar, his relatives and his offices on Friday."

In August, DVAC last raided the residence and offices of former Tamil Nadu Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kamaraj in Mannargudi. The DVAC started the raids after registering an FIR where DVAC said that the former Minister acquired illegal assets in the name of his sons and associate firms to the tune of Rs 58.44 crore. 

Earlier, five AIADMK ex-Ministers including ex-Transportation Minister MR Vijayabaskar, ex-Municipal Administration Minister Velumani, former Minister for Commercial Taxes KC Veeramani, former Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and former Minister Thangamani came under the scanner of DVAC for amassing wealth through illegal means during their tenure as Ministers.
