Tamil Nadu: BJP's Ranjana Nachiyar Arrested For Assaulting Chennai School Students

Ranjana Nachiyar initially deboarded the students traveling on footboard from the bus, scolded and then forcefully took to beating them.

Actor-turned-politician Ranjana Nachiyar was arrested on Saturday for slapping and abusing school students who traveled on footboard on a bus in Kundrathur. The action was taken against her after a video of her apprehending the students on Friday went viral on social media. Ranjana Nachiyar is known for her performances in Irumbu Thirai, Thupparivalan and Annaatthe

On Friday, a video that surfaced on social media showed youngsters and students traveling on footboard in large numbers on a bus. The actor Ranjana Nachiyar was seen suddenly stopping the bus and asking the students to forcefully deboard. She initially scolded and then took to beating the students.

Ranjana was reported to have verbally abused the bus conductor as well.

The Mangadu police filed a complaint based on a First Information Report under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 75j (punishment for cruelty to child), as reported by The News Minute, citing sources.

Later, a video of the politician arguing with the police while they attempted to arrest her was also circulated online.

While Ranjana claimed that male police officers banged on her window as she was changing at her house, a police officer clarified they waited outside Ranjana's door for over thirty minutes before she responded. The police stated that no arrest warrant had been issued, and only a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the actor. Following a prolonged argument, the actor was arrested and transported to the Mangadu police station.

However, BJP workers opposed the arrest and supported Ranjana.
