Tamil Nadu: BJP Committee Visits Girl's Parents Who Died By Suicide, Alleges Forced Conversion

The team also met Thanjavur District Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver and Additional SP V Jayachandran.

Chennai: A four-member fact-finding team of BJP members appointed by the party’s national president JP Nadda visited Thanjavur and met the parents of the girl who killed herself. The team has been appointed to ascertain the cause of the girl's death. While the girl in her death statement said that she took the extreme decision due to the pressure given by the warden to perform additional work in the hostel, the BJP cadre alleged that the death was due to religious conversion.

According to a report on the New Indian Express, the all-woman panel who visited the family of the student are Sandhya Ray from Madhya Pradesh, Geetha Vivekananda from Karnataka, Vijayashanthi from Telangana, and Chitra Tai Wagh of Maharashtra.

After the meeting, Vijayashanthi told reporters, we will submit a report to BJP president Nadda about the information we get one by one. The girl should get justice and there should be a "full stop to conversion", she said.

Later, Vijayashanti said, the children's home license expired two months back and the school has not renewed it yet.

She then asked why the state did not release the photo of the arrested person in the case and then went to accuse DMK of religious politics.

The DMK is conducting politics in the name of religion and we have come here to get justice for the girl, she said.

Later, Vijayashanthi advised the girls to not take such extreme steps and to face issues boldly.

The team also met Thanjavur District Collector Dinesh Ponraj Oliver and Additional SP V Jayachandran.

About the talks with Collector, Vijayashanti said, the Collector refused to share any details on the probe since the case has been transferred to CBI.

A Class 11 girl consumed poison on January 9 and succumbed without responding to treatment a week later. In her death statement, the girl alleged that she died due to pressure from her hostel warden to perform additional works. However, a purported video taken by a VHP member which was released after her death allegedly shows the girl mentioning about religious conversion.
