Tamil Nadu: Only Agenda of DMK Government ‘Corruption, Collection & Vendetta’, Says Opposition

Members of opposition parties on Wednesday walked out of the assembly to oppose the government’s move to initiate further investigation into the Kodanad estate heist and murder case

Chennai: Former chief minister and opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam met the Governor Banwarilal Purohit and submitted a five-page letter to him on Thursday. Explaining the failures of the DMK government and alleging that elected representatives are indulging in corruption, the opposition leader said that the only agenda of the government is ‘corruption, collection and vendetta’.

It comes a day after the members of opposition parties walked out of the assembly to register their protest against the government’s move to initiate further investigation into the Kodanad estate heist and murder case. They are boycotting the assembly for two days.

The petition signed by both the AIADMK leaders said that the handling of the murder and robbery at the summer residence of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in Kodanad is an example for the failure on the part of DMK government.

Detailing the case, the petition said that the police officials had apprehended all the accused and the charge sheet was filed. At a time when the trial was almost completed, the state government is initiating further investigation into the matter instead of speeding up the trial even though the Supreme Court had dismissed the request for further investigation in the past, the petition added.

The prosecution which was keen on the speedy disposal of the trail earlier, has now summoned the accused who was on bail, and is seeking to do further investigation, the petition said and added that it is only to make allegations against the opposition leader.

The petition further said that the DMK government is indulging in a vengeful political game by conducting raids against two former AIADMK ministers MR Vijaya Bhaskar and SP Velumani.

The government has also stopped the welfare and infrastructural projects including road and irrigation projects that were commenced during the previous government, the petition added.
