Tamil Nadu: A Physically Challenged NEET Aspirant To Become 1st Doctor From This Rural Hamlet

Shamsiya, a physically challenged girl, who studied at Merpanaikkadu Govt Higher Secondary School, was provided NEET coaching by Thisaigal institute, which gives free coaching to govt school students

New Delhi: Merpanaikkadu, a village in Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu with a population of over 10,000 to have the first doctor from the remote hamlet -- Shamsiya Afrin.

New Indian Express reports that Shamsiya's admission to Stanley Medical College in Chennai on Friday led to unprecedented happiness among the villagers. Shamsiya, a physically challenged girl, who studied at Merpanaikkadu Government Higher Secondary School, was provided NEET coaching by Thisaigal institute, which gives free coaching to government school students, has also arranged a special bus for the NEET aspirant to attend classes.

Fetching an MBBS seat at Stanley Medical College wasn't easy for Shamsiya as she worked really hard every day-in and day-out to be at a position where she is today, told one of the teachers at the institute to New Indian Express.

It all started reportedly when Shamsiya visited a government hospital frequently and have observed how the doctors there have helped her and taken care of her in an attempt to cure her disability. Witnessing all this, the NEET aspirant has decided to become a doctor and since then there is no looking back, she has given her best to become a frontline worker, said Shamsiya, according to the report.

Shamsiya's father is also a physically challenged person as he was attacked by polio at an early age.
