Subsequently, a state government bus following behind crashed into the omni bus, according to reports.
According to ANI, Padalam Police said, "Four people died and more than 15 were injured after a bus collided with a lorry in Maduranthakam on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway as it lost control while trying to overtake. The injured have been taken to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. More details awaited."

In the impact, four people died on the spot. Around 20 people who were injured in the mishap were taken to Chengalpattu Government Hospital for treatment.
Earlier, on Wednesday morning, six people died and 32 others suffered injuries after a private travel bus collided head-on with a truck on Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway. The accident took place near Chilakaluripet mandal while the bus was traveling from Chinnaganjam in Bapatla district to Hyderabad. Eyewitnesses and survivours of the tragic incident reported that the collision led to an almost instantaneous ignition of both vehicles. At the time of the accident, there were 42 passengers aboard the bus.
The deceased included both drivers and four passengers. All the victims were from Bapatla district of Andhra Pradesh.
