Nine Dead, Several Injured In Explosion At Firecracker Unit In Kanchipuram
Four fire tenders were deployed to put out the fire.
Nine persons died and several others suffered injuries after a major fire accident at a firecracker unit in Kuruvi hills in Kanchipuram on Wednesday.
According to ABP Nadu, at 12 pm on Wednesday, the firecrackers which were kept outdoors for drying near a godown at Kuruvi hills suddenly started to burst in the combustion. The fire soon started to spread to the godown and created a major mishap.
A section of the people who were working near the godown was thrown at a distance in the impact.
The remaining employees rushed for help. The Fire Department was pressed into service. Four fire tenders were deployed to put out the fire.
The fire was put out after a fight for an hour.
The police recovered the bodies of the deceased and sent them for post-mortem at a nearby GH. They have also registered a case.
Overall 25 people were working in the factory.
Further investigations are on.
Last week, two women died in an explosion at a firecracker unit in Dharmapuri. Another woman also suffered injuries in the incident.
When the three women were working at a firecracker unit in Nagadasampatti near Pennagaram, a sudden blast took place due to the friction between the crackers. The police said that the mishap took place when the women were making crackers for use at temple festivals.
In another incident, a woman was killed and nine others suffered injuries in a cracker unit blast. The incident took place at a cracker manufacturing unit in Sivanarpuram near Reddichavadi in Cuddalore district.
Meanwhile, a worker suffered an injury in a separate cracker unit blast near Sivakasi.
