SC Directs To Form Medical Board With AIIMS Doctors To Probe Ex-TN CM Jayalalithaa's Death

A special board of inquiry was formed under Arumughaswamy, retired Madras High Court justice, on September 25, 2017.  

Chennai: The Supreme Court on Monday backed the Arumughasamy Commission of Inquiry to probe the treatment provided to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa before her death. Further, the Court instructed the Director of AIIMS, New Delhi to nominate a panel of doctors and specialists in the field to help with the investigation into the treatment provided for her ailments. 

According to a report on IANS, a bench of justices S Abdul Nazeer and Krishna Murari of the Supreme Court told that it was right to form a medical board to help the commission with the case. The Court said, the bench requests Director, AIIMS, New Delhi to nominate specialists and doctors in the field of treatment provided to the former Chief Minister and told the Commission to provide a full record of the proceedings to the Medical Board.

The Court also said that the Medical Board can also participate in the proceedings and give a copy of the report to the commission. 

On November 30, the Apex Court said that they will pass an order in the matter to permit the formation of a medical board using AIIMS doctors and the order was recently uploaded.

Earlier, the Court was hearing a case pertaining to the allegation of Apollo Hospitals that the panel was biased and they violated the principle of natural justice.
