The RSS marches took place last year after High Court permitted to conduct the marches after the police denied permission to organise them in the state citing security reasons.

In October of last year, the RSS requested permission from Tamil Nadu government to hold a march and public gatherings at various locations throughout the State to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti and 75 years of India's independence. This matter was brought before the court again.

However, the state government refused permission citing intelligence reports of potential law and order problems. The RSS then approached the Madras High Court.

Earlier, route marches were organised by the RSS at 45 places across the State in April 2022.
