Omicron Scare: Madurai To Ban Unvaccinated People To Enter Temples, Malls & Other Public Places
The decision of the administration comes amid concern over the spread of Omicron variant of novel coronavirus.
Chennai: The Madurai district administration has provided one week's time for people to get at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination failing which they cannot enter public places. The Madurai administration took the decision after holding a meet with district officials and Tamil Nadu Commercial Taxes Minister P Moorthi.
According to a report on ANI, Madurai District Collector Aneesh Sekhar said, "One week's time has been given to people to get at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, failing which those unvaccinated people to be not allowed to enter public places like hotels, shopping malls and other commercial establishments."

The decision of the administration comes amid concern over the spread of Omicron variant of novel coronavirus.
Earlier, Commercial Taxes Minister P Moorthi addressing the reporters on the compulsory vaccination said, vaccine will provide 100% protection to people against infection and a vaccine awareness campaign will be conducted with the help of self-help groups and nurses, as per The Hindu.
The Minister said, the decision to ban unvaccinated people in public places was taken due to the plan of Tamil Nadu government to create a safe place against COVID-19.
Further, the Minister said that the government is geared to protect people from COVID-19 and has already created additional facilities in hospital and increased screening in airports to curb the spread of Omicron.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian also instructed officials to restrict the unvaccinated people in public places in the state.
