Nalini Meets Husband & 3 Others AT Trichy Spl Camp, Appeals For Their Release

Nalini said that Santhan wished to return to Sri Lanka. However, Robert Payas and Jayakumar haven't made a decision yet.

Chennai: Nalini Sriharan who was released from prison after 32 years in connection with the assassination of former PM Rajiv Gandhi met four other persons including her husband who were released along with her at Trichy special camp on Monday. The four members including Murugan were Sri Lankan nationals and were taken to Trichy special camp after their release.

After the meeting, Nalini said, “I appeal to state and central governments to release 4 Sri Lankan nationals, locked in Trichy special camp including my husband. Despite being released from prison, this special camp is like a prison again.”

“Some people oppose our release. However, we're a Congress family. When Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi were assassinated, our family was sad and didn't eat. I can't accept I was named in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. I should be free of that blame. We don't know who assassinated him,” she said.

Nalini also said that Tiruchy Collector M Pradeep Kumar told her to submit a formal petition for the release of the four members. 

She said that Santhan wished to return to Sri Lanka. However, Robert Payas and Jayakumar haven't made a decision yet. While she said that she and Murugan hope to reunite with her daughter in London. 

Meanwhile, Collector Pradeep Kumar said that the four persons have been provided with basic amenities including food. He said, those who want to go back to their native country, a deportation order will be issued once confirmation of their citizenship is received. However, if they wish to go to another country, the FRRO will contact that country and orders will be issued based on that, as per a report on The New Indian Express.
