Karunanidhi Death Anniversary: TN CM Stalin, DMK Leaders Pay Tributes At Memorial

Stalin was accompanied by senior Ministers Duraimurugan, EV Velu, Ponumudi, Senthil Balaji and DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin along with DMK women’s wing president Kanimozhi, DMK Ministers, MPs and MLAs paid floral tributes at the memorial of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patriarch Karunanidhi on the occasion of his third death anniversary on Saturday. Stalin was accompanied by senior Ministers Duraimurugan, EV Velu, Ponumudi, Senthil Balaji and DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran.

According to reports, the memorial of the late DMK leader was decorated with flowers, copies of DMK mouthpiece Murasoli and a slogan emphasizing that DMK will achieve unfinished dreams and aspirations of ‘Kalaignar’ Karunanidhi for the upliftment of Tamil society.

Taking to Twitter, Stalin said, “It’s the remembrance day of our leader who continues to provide us direction and fills our hearts. It's been three years since we have separated from our leader and the son of mother Tamil. However, let’s follow his words and thoughts and walk his path! Let’s create an equal society.”

After paying tribute at Karunanidhi’s memorial, Stalin made a visit to party headquarters Anna Arivalayam, Karunanidhi’s home at Gopalapuram and CIT Colony.

Meanwhile, the DMK cadre also kept the death anniversary celebrations low-key at their respective home as per the instructions of DMK president Stalin. Earlier, CM Stalin requested party members to refrain from festivities and deck Kalaignar's portrait with flowers at their homes and pay homage to the Tamil leader. He told party cadres to avoid festivities due to the prevailing COVID-19 restrictions, as per a report.

On August 7, 2018, DMK leader Karunanidhi breathed his last due to a prolonged illness at the age of 94 at a private hospital in Chennai. The DMK leader’s remains were placed at Rajaji Hall in Omandurar Government Estate in Anna Salai for the public to pay final respects. Later, as per the last wish of the demised leader, he was laid to rest next to his mentor and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Anna's memorial at Marina.
