Kallakurichi Violence: 302 People Involved In Arson & Vandalism Arrested, Collector & SP Transferred

Days after riots in Kallakurichi, the government transferred both district Collector PN Sridhar and Superintendent of Police S Selvakumar on Tuesday

A total of 302 people, including 20 minors and two women, who were involved in the Kaniyamoor private school riot near Chinnasalem in Kallakurichi district, have been arrested till Tuesday. Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is being constituted for an in-depth investigation into the violence in Kallakurichi district's Chinnasalem on Sunday (jult 17).

Days after riots in Kallakurichi, the government transferred both district Collector PN Sridhar and Superintendent of Police S Selvakumar on Tuesday. Kallakurichi Collector transferred, services "placed at the disposal for Chennai-Kanniyakumari Industrial Corridor for appointment as Project Director", according to an order.

Sravan Kumar Jatavath, who serves as the Additional Director in Agriculture Department, Chennai, will take charge as new district Collector of Kallakurichi while Deputy Commissioner of Police, Triplicane, P Pakalavan will be the new SP of the district.

Meanwhile, a Forensic team reached the school in Kallakurichi where violence broke out on July 17. Also on Tuesday, the Directorate of Matriculation sent notices to 987 private schools, seeking an explanation from them over the closing of schools against the government's advice.
