IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain In 14 Tamil Nadu Districts. Check Details

In Chennai, IMD said that light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is likely to occur in some areas for the next 48 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall in several districts including Chennai due to a trough on Tuesday and Wednesday. The rainfall, as per IMD, is due to a trough from south interior Karnataka to Comorin area. The IMD said that heavy rainfall will continue in over 14 districts for the next 3 days till September 1.

In a release, the IMD said, "Light to moderate rain at a few places with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal area." 

Heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Nilgiris & Ghat areas of Coimbatore districts of Tamilnadu and Puducherry, it said.

The highest amount of was rainfall recorded in Kodambakkam (7 cm) followed by Vanagaram, Anna Nagar, Ambathur (6 cm) and Chennai Nungambakkam with 5 cm on Monday. The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Palayamkottai at 40.6 ˚C.

About the weather in Chennai, IMD said, “Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light/Moderate rain with thunderstorm & lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be 35- 36 °C and minimum temperature is likely to be 25-26 °C.”

A weather blogger, Chennai rains said, "Thunderstorms closer to the Ghats over South TamilNadu, would move East bringing widespread rains to Madurai and surrounding districts. Storms closer to the Eastern Ghats in Central TN too. Chennai will possibly see some rains later tonight."
