'Hindi Imposition': Tamil Nadu Leaders Condemn Amit Shah's Statement Pitching For Hindi

TN CM said, BJP's leadership has always been involved in damaging India's pluralism.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu CM Stalin, DMK MP Kanimozhi, PMK founder Ramadoss among others condemned Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on interacting in Hindi on Friday. Amit Shah on Friday said that Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English and people of different states should speak Hindi with each other.

According to a report on PTI, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that Shah thrusts Hindi into us and this is against 'integrity and pluralism' of India. However, the CM said that Shah's efforts will not succeed.

Further, the CM said, BJP's leadership has always been involved in damaging India's pluralism.

"Is Amit Shah thinking that only 'Hindi' states are enough and not Indian states? One language is not unity it's just against diversity. You are repeating your mistakes so you'll not succeed," the CM said.

On Friday, Lok Sabha MP from Thoothukudi Kanimozhi said, the one language idea will not unite India but it will split the nation.

The union government and Ministers should be aware of the history of anti-Hindi agitation and sacrifices made by the leaders, she said.

PMK founder Ramadoss said, Shah's statement was "shocking" since it just means Hindi imposition and nothing else.

He said, if there's any language that should be made an official language of the country then Tamil should be qualified for that position since it's the oldest language.

English should remain as a link language and 22 languages including Tamil should be made official languages since people speak different languages and their sentiments should also be accepted, he said.
