Addressing reporters, former MLA Dhinakaran said, “Erode-East District secretary AM Shiva Prasadh will be party's candidate for Erode East bypoll.”
“We're contesting this bypoll to make people realise the real situation in the state. The ruling party hasn't fulfilled any promises it had made during Assembly polls. We hope we'll defeat the ruling alliance in this bypoll,” he said.

In bypolls over 30 candidates will compete in the polls despite that we won in RK Nagar. So we expect to win the bypoll in a similar manner, he said.
Earlier, the DMK-led alliance announced EVKS Elangovan of Congress as the candidate for the bypolls. Kamal Haasan's Makkal Needhi Maiam also extended its support to Elangovan.
However, on the other hand, AIADMK is yet to announce a candidate. Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami's faction of AIADMK said that they would contest the polls while former CM O Panneerselvam also announced that their faction of AIADMK too would contest in the polls. As a result, confusion prevails over the candidate, symbol and others among AIADMK members.
