Tamil Nadu: Two Killed After Temple Chariot Collapses On Devotees In Dharmapuri

Dharmapuri Chariot Accident: The incident was reported while the Kaliamman temple chariot was being taken around as part of Vaikasi festival in the streets of Papparapatti. 

Chennai: Two men were killed and four others sustained injuries after a temple chariot collapsed on devotees in Papparapatti of Dharmapuri on Monday. The incident was reported while the Kaliamman temple chariot was being taken around as part of Vaikasi festival in the streets of Papparapatti. 

According to a report on PTI, a senior police officer said, the temple chariot suddenly got overturned on the devotees while they were taking out the temple car for possession. Of the total, two men got caught under the wooden wheels and died on the spot. 

The two deceased persons were identified as C Manoharan and G Saravanan. 

Following the incident, TN CM Stalin extended his condolences to the kin of the deceased persons. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

In a statement on Monday, Stalin said, four other persons who got injured in the accident are also undergoing treatment at Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital.

“I have issued orders to provide additional care to those injured,” he said.

Further, he also announced Rs 50,000 each to all the four persons for their treatment from Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.

Meanwhile, the incident was reported after 11 people were killed due to electrocution while participating in a chariot festival in Thanjavur on April 27, 2022. The mishap took place after the temple car came in contact with an overhead livewire during a procession and electrocuted the people who were near the chariot.
