Chennai Customs Seize 2,000 Grams Of Cocaine Worth Rs 21 Cr From Ghanaian Passenger

In a significant narcotics seizure, the Customs Department intercepted over 2,000 grams of cocaine worth Rs 21 crore from an air passenger who arrived from Ghana. The operation took place at Chennai International Airport on June 26.

The woman, hailing from the West African country, was apprehended by intelligence officers upon her arrival. During the interrogation, she was found to be in possession of 2,095 grams of cocaine in powder form. The drugs were ingeniously concealed within her bags and footwear.

Principal Commissioner of Customs, R. Srinivasa Naik, confirmed the seizure in an official release. The contraband was recovered under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. Following her arrest, the woman has been detained and is currently lodged in Central Prison, Puzhal.

On June 24, the Air Intelligence Unit of Chennai Customs, acting on inputs from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized 12.095 kg of gold worth Rs 7.58 crores from 10 passengers who arrived from Dubai and Abu Dhabi. All passengers were arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.

 

Meanwhile, a Ugandan national was arrested at the international airport in Delhi for smuggling cocaine-filled capsules worth ₹1.38 crore, officials reported on Wednesday. The accused was intercepted upon arrival from Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) on June 20.

During questioning, the man admitted to ingesting capsules containing a narcotic substance. According to a statement issued by the customs department on Wednesday, seven capsules were voluntarily ejected by the passenger at the airport. The remaining capsules were removed at Safdarjung Hospital under expert medical supervision.
