Chennai Corporation Budget 2022: From Free Breakfast For Students To Dialysis Units — Know Key Points Of Allocations

With the presentation of the budget in Ripon Building on Saturday, Mayor Priya also becomes the first woman Dalit Mayor to present the budget for the civic body. 

Chennai: The Chennai Corporation Mayor Priya Rajan presented the civic body's budget after a gap of six years on Saturday. In the budget, Priya Rajan made important announcements including providing breakfast for Corporation school students, distribution of sanitary napkins for female students and increase in the ward development funds among others. 

With the presentation of the budget in Ripon Building on Saturday, Mayor Priya also becomes the first woman Dalit Mayor to present the budget for the civic body. 

Some of the important announcements made by the Mayor include:

> Students will be provided breakfast in schools run by civic body

> CCTV cameras will be set up in schools at the cost of Rs 5.47 crore

> Efforts will be taken to improve English speaking in schools

> Girl students will be given sanitary napkins under Nirbhaya Funds at the cost of Rs 23.66 crore

> Chennai Corporation ward members' welfare fund will be increased by Rs 5 lakh to Rs 35 lakh 

> Ward development fund of Rs 10 crore will be allotted 

>  QR code facility will be made available to pay property tax in order to ease the process

> 70 Chennai Corporation high and higher secondary schools will be provided with internet connection of Rs 1.86 crore

> Three more additional dialysis units will be set up at the cost of Rs 3.50 crore

> Three additional facilities to be set up to provide housing facility for the homeless people

The Corporation budget also alloted lion's share for stormwater drains and solid waste management in the city.
