BJP Leader Killed In Public View On Streets Of Chennai

The police are still on the lookout to find the accused.

Chennai: A BJP worker was hacked to death in full public view at Chintadripet in Chennai on Tuesday evening. The deceased was identified as Balachander, Chennai Central district secretary of BJP’s SC/ST Wing. 

On Tuesday at 7.50 pm, Balachander was riding his two-wheeler near a tea shop on Samy Naickar Street, a busy area in Chintadripet, when a gang of men waylaid him, said a report on The Hindu. 

Balachander immediately left his vehicle and started to run. However, the gang soon chased him and attacked him with sharp objects. They then hacked him.

The passersby immediately informed the police. The Chintadripet police rushed to the spot and they took Balachander to Omandurar Government Hospital.

However, he was declared dead. 

The police then surrounded the area and deployed additional police force in the vicinity to avoid any tension. The forensic experts collected the samples from the crime scene.

The police are also investigating to find out the person and the reason behind the attack.

In a tweet, TN BJP chief Annamalai said, "There is no security for anyone here! The police department which is inactive due to the DMK government pose as no good to the people."

"The party will stand with Chennai Central District SC/ST leader Balachander's family members. The police must immediately find and arrest the killers of my young and vibrant brother," he said.
