Previously, the Samajwadi Party (SP) dissolved its unit in Madhya Pradesh. The decision to dissolve the entire unit, led by state president Ramayan Singh, was made under the instructions of Yadav, according to SP national spokesperson Yash Bhartiya.

Bhartiya further stated, "The district units have been dissolved, and 10 Lok Sabha in-charges have been relieved of their duties."

The move came after the SP failed to secure any seats in the 230-member Assembly, elections for which were conducted on November 17, with results announced on December 3.

Meanwhile, Swami Prasad Maurya resigned from Samajwadi Party on Tuesday. Addressing the reporters, he said, "I have always worked for the Samajwadi Party but some anti-social elements tried to create hurdles for me. The national president had failed to take action against such people."

"I wrote a letter regarding this on February 13 but no action was taken following which I resigned as the party's national general secretary. Today, I have resigned from the party's primary membership and the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council," he said, as per a report on PTI.

Further, Swami Prasad Maurya said that he would announce his new party at Talkatora Stadium in Delhi on February 22, 2024.
