RG Kar Doctor Death: Calcutta HC Seeks CBI Report Over Objectionable Comments On Victim's Picture

The Calcutta High Court directed the CBI to submit a report on objectionable comments made against the victim in the brutal rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar medical college and hospital.

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a report on objectionable comments made against the victim in the brutal rape-murder of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar medical college and hospital in Kolkata.

A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya while hearing the case said that some very nasty comments were written against the victim on social media under her picture. The high court asked the CBI to see if something can be done, since it has taken over the investigation.

The court was hearing a petition against very objectionable comments being made on social media under the picture of the victim.

The counsel appearing in court said that such comments were being made by untraceable handles and it was difficult to find out the people behind them. He urged the court to direct the Kolkata Police Cyber Cell to trace those accounts.

However, the court said that since the CBI has taken over the investigation. However, the court was informed that CBI does not have a cyber cell thus a report from the Kolkata police should also be sought.

The Calcutta High Court then said that the state police can help and cooperate with the police's cyber cell as and when necessary in compiling a report.

Earlier, the Supreme Court passed an injunctive order directing all social and electronic media platforms to remove the name, photos, videos and other details of the 31-year old resident doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra passed the order during a suo motu hearing on the brutal rape and murder of the doctor in the Kolkata hospital.
