RG Kar Doctor Death In Kolkata: Why Mamata Banerjee Intends To Launch Protest, TMC MP Explains

RG Kar News: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will lead a protest rally demanding swift investigation if the CBI doesn't complete its probe into the rape and murder of an RG Kar Hospital doctor.

RG Kar News: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will launch a protest rally over the RG Kar Hospital doctor's rape and murder case. Earlier, she had given an ultimatum to the Kolkata Police, before the CBI took over the case, asking the state law enforcement department to fast-track the investigation and catch all culprits by Sunday.

CM Mamata has been under fire from the Opposition as well as a section of doctors and citizens after the Kolkata doctor's death. With the violence and vandalism that unfolded on Wednesday during the midnight protest, the Kolkata Police has also been slammed for failing to control the mob that ran amock inside the RG Kar Hospital.

Despite the stiff opposition, why did CM Mamata Banerjee decide to launch a protest in her own state? Trinamool Congress's Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien sought to explain the Bengal CM's stance. He said that CM Mamata Banerjee will press for the same deadline for the CBI.

"It is hard to conceive of a more bestial, heinous crime than the murder and rape of a young woman that took place in Kolkata. The public outrage is entirely understandable," he posted on X.

Explaining Mamata Banerjee's intended move to conduct a protest rally, Derek O'Brien said: "The CBI, which is now handling the case, must give daily updates on the investigation. The deadline given by the CM to Kolkata Police to complete the investigation was August 17. The same must apply to CBI."

He further said: "Kolkata Police has arrested one accused.  Justice will happen only when the CBI nabs all those involved and sends the case to a fast-track court"

He aired his apprehension about the CBI "burying" the case. He said: "CBI taking over the case shouldn’t lead to it being quietly buried. The urgent need of the hour is swift justice and the harshest punishment for the culprits. No one who committed this barbaric act must be spared."

He also slammed the RG Kar Hospital vandalism on Wednesday night and said the police have so far arrested 19 people.

On Thursday, Mama Banerjee slammed the RG Kar Hospital violence and hailed the police for "not losing patience". "Yesterday, the police were also attacked... I would like to hail them [police] that they did not lose patience. They did not hurt anyone... Now the case is not in our hands, it is in the hands of CBI, if you have something to say, then tell CBI, we have no objection..."
