Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Death: Allies, Rivals Mourn As Last Left CM Of Bengal Passes Away

Former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who was the last CM in the state from Left Front, breathed his last on Thursday morning.

Political parties across the spectrum grieved the demise of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 80. He served as seventh Chief Minister of West Bengal and was the last to hold the position from the Left Front. 

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Legislative Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Suvendu Adhikari said he was "deeply saddened" by the news of his demise. 

"I am deeply saddened to learn that former West Bengal Chief Minister; Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharya has left for his heavenly abode. Condolences to his family members and admirers. I pray that his soul finds eternal peace," Suvendu said in a post on X.

The Congress party's West Bengal unit also took to its X handle and mourn the death of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

"We are deeply saddened by the demise of former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya. Our heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and countless well-wishers," the party said in a post on X.

"On behalf of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress, we pay our respects to former Chief Minister Late Buddhadev Bhattacharya," it added. 

The CPI(M) also hailed the member of its Politbureau. "Salute to Comrade Buddhadev Bhattacharya," said the party.

CPI(M) West Bengal State Secretary, Md Salim told reporters that Bhattacharjee has donated his body for medical science and the mortal remains will be submitted after allowing people to pay their last respect. 

Bhattacharjee is survived by his wife, Meera and son, Suchetan.
