Bengal: Suvendu's 'Derogatory' Remark On Rahul Gandhi Draws Ire Of Congress, TMC. Police Complaint Lodged

The Congress demanded an unconditional apology from BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari for his alleged remarks against Rahul Gandhi. The TMC has also condemned the use of abusive language.

New Delhi: The West Bengal Congress unit has filed a police complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari. The complaint alleges that Adhikari made distasteful and derogatory remarks directed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The incident occurred during a discussion about the Congress party's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,' which entered Bihar from West Bengal on Monday morning.

A purported video clip of the alleged remarks made by Suvendu Adhikari has circulated widely, sparking controversy and prompting the Congress party to take legal action. In the video, Adhikari is claimed to have hurled an abusive word when speaking about Rahul Gandhi.

"We have filed a police complaint against Suvendu Adhikari for making distasteful and derogatory remarks against our leader. This behaviour is unacceptable and defamatory. We have urged the police to take immediate action", PTI quoted state Congress leader Suvankar Sarkar as saying.

The Congress also demanded an unconditional apology from Adhikari. The police complaint was lodged at Siliguri police station in North Bengal. When approached for his comment, Adhikari declined to comment, as per PTI.

'BJP’s Culture And Mentality': TMC Condemns Suvendu Adhikari’s Remarks Against Rahul Gandhi

Several of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders shared the video clip and denounced Adhikari's alleged remarks, asserting that the practice of using abusive language against political adversaries must cease.

Kunal Ghosh, a prominent TMC leader, criticised the use of abusive language in politics, emphasising that regardless of political differences, such language is not an acceptable means of a disagreement. Ghosh urged Bengal Congress leaders, engaged in opposition to the TMC, to take note of the BJP leader's comments.

“We strongly condemn Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks against Rahul Gandhi. This reflects the BJP’s culture and mentality. Regardless of one’s political stance, this is not an acceptable method or language for disagreement. Bengal Congress leaders, who are busy opposing the TMC, should take note of the BJP leader’s comments,” TMC leader Kunal Ghosh remarked, as per PTI.

So far, the Bengal BJP unit has chosen not to comment on the issue.
