CM Mamata Banerjee Undergoes Knee Surgery For Ligament Injury At SSKM Hospital In Kolkata
The surgery comes in the wake of an injury that she sustained last week when the helicopter she was travelling in made an emergency landing due to bad weather.
New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee underwent a knee surgery in Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital on Thursday. The surgery comes in the wake of an injury that she sustained last week when the helicopter she was travelling in made an emergency landing due to bad weather.
According to reports, CM Mamata Banerjee had suffered a ligament injury on her left knee due to which she had to undergo the surgery. She arrived at the hospital earlier in the day for a check-up. There was swelling in her left knee joint which was likely due to excess fluid collection in or around the area.
"There is a swelling in her left knee joint which might be due to excess fluid collection in or around that area. We need to see whether that requires surgery or not," a senior doctor, part of the team treating her, earlier told PTI.
It is to be noted that Mamata Banerjee was injured in her left hip joint as well while she was alighting from a helicopter that had to make an emergency landing at Sevoke airbase due to bad weather last week. The doctors had prescribed her rest and restricted movement.
Since then, CM Mamata has been undergoing physiotherapy at her home in Kalighat.
According to reports, the doctors treating Mamata Banerjee had said microsurgery was needed to reduce her pain in the knee. The chief minister visited the hospital at around 2 pm for a check-up and the doctors performed a city scan of her left knee before the microsurgery. Mamata Banerjee was admitted to a VVIP cabin in the Woodburn block of SSKM hospital.
