Uttarakhand Govt Forms 6-Member Expert Panel To Probe Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse

The Uttarakhand government has constituted a six-member expert committee to probe the Uttarkashi tunnel collapse which has trapped 40 workers.

The Uttarakhand government has constituted a six-member expert committee to investigate the Uttarkashi tunnel accident which trapped 40 workers and rescue operations to save those trapped are underway on Day 3 since the collapse.

Uttarakhand SDRF Commandant Manikant Mishra has said he has spoken to workers trapped in the tunnel and they have assured him that all 40 workers were doing well, adding that they would soon be rescued. He informed that essential food items and some medicines were supplied to the workers today.

On Monday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the site of the accident and shared updates about the ongoing operations by the state and central agencies.

He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of the situation and assured all possible help.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi took information from Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone about the workers trapped in the tunnel near Silkyara, Uttarkashi. Giving detailed information about the relief and rescue operations, the Chief Minister said that various state and central agencies are engaged in relief and rescue operations with mutual coordination and promptness," the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office (CMO) informed, as per news agency ANI.

As per the latest update, all the trapper workers are safe and have been provided with food and oxygen.

A team of Jharkhand government officials comprising three members have also left for Uttarakhand to help in the rescue work. The three-member team included JAP-IT (Jharkhand Agency for Promotion of Information Technology) CEO Bhuvnesh Pratap Singh, and joint labour commissioners Rajesh Prasad and Robert Lakra. The team left on the instruction of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to help in the rescue operations to save the workers. Soren also wished for the speedy recovery of the trapped workers. At least 10 workers out of those trapped hailed from Jharkhand.
