Badrinath Highway Blocked In Uttarakhand's Chamoli Due To Falling Stones After Incessant Rain

The traffic was temporarily suspended after stones slipped down the hill in Karnaprayag town of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand.

The traffic movement on the Badrinath highway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district was blocked after stones rolled off a hill near Baba Ashram Karnaprayag, reported ANI citing officials. Traffic was temporarily suspended after stones slipped down the hill in Karnaprayag town of Chamoli, district police said. On Saturday, a portion of the Badrinath National Highway (NH-7) was damaged as the water level of the Lambagad drain rose due to the heavy showers in the Chamoli since Friday night, ANI mentioned.

A 50-metre stretch was washed away after incessant rainfall. Police in a statement said that the falling debris and a rise in the water level of the Lambagah drain due to the rainfall since Friday night caused 50 metre of NH-7 to wash away.

As per ANI, the road near Nandprayag and Pursari on the Badrinath National Highway was blocked earlier due to the pile-up of debris from the hills. Chamoli Police shared the visuals from the spot on social media platforms, showing a huge pile of debris on the road.

The road was blocked near Navodaya Vidyalaya Pipalkoti on Badrinath National Highway due to a pile-up of debris. This affected the traffic on a 70-metre stretch of the National Highway-7 that was damaged because of rainfall near Gauchar town in Chamoli. Long queues of traffic were left stranded on both sides of the road following the incident.

After receiving the information, officials from several departments rushed to restore the road for commuters at the earliest.

Last week, scores of commuters, including tourists as well as locals, were stranded in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi after the Yamunotri National Highway was blocked at many places on Saturday due to falling debris near Gangnani, ANI reported citing officials. The Uttarkashi administration has said that the highway was blocked at many places including Chhatang.
