UP: MLA's Aide Digs Up Shahjahanpur Road After Contractor Refuses To Pay 'Commission', Says Report

Taking note of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered full recovery of the damage from those who allegedly dug the road.

New Delhi: A half-a-kilometre stretch of a road connecting Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur to Budaun was allegedly dug up with a bulldozer by a representative of a BJP MLA over non-payment of “commission” by the contractor, news agency PTI reported. Taking note of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered full recovery of the damage from those who allegedly dug the road, a senior PWD official said, as reported by the news agency.

According to the report, the manager of a construction firm lodged a complaint against 15-20 unidentified people, based on which an FIR was registered. The complainant alleged that one of the accused is a representative of BJP leader Veer Vikram Singh, who is an MLA from Katra.

The FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act on October 3, PTI reported.

As per the complainant, Jagveer Singh, who introduced himself as the representative of the BJP leader, intimidated the employees of the construction firm and demanded a “5 per cent commission” from the company.

"When this commission was not given, they dug up half a kilometre of the road built by us with a bulldozer on October 2," PTI quoted the complainant as saying.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Meena said it is alleged that Jagveer Singh went to the construction site with 15-20 people and thrashed the workers engaged in the work. They then dug up half-a-kilometre of the road with a bulldozer. Efforts are underway to nab the accused, the SP added.

Additional District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Pandey said a detailed information has been sought from the executive engineer of PWD. A team has also been formed under Tilhar sub-divisional magistrate to probe the matter, PTI reported.

Meanwhile, MLA Veer Vikram Singh said the accused Jagveer Singh is not his representative, but accepted that he is a BJP worker.
