'They Only Like People Who Praise Govt': Neha Singh On Being Served Police Notice Over Song 'UP Mein Ka Ba'

The police issued her a notice for inciting hatred among the public after the second part of her song was uploaded.

New Delhi: Popular folk singer Neha Singh, who became popular for her 'UP Mein Ka Ba' song ahead of the assembly elections in the state, was served a notice for a satirical song that criticized the Yogi Adityanath government for its eviction drive in the state's Kanpur.

The police issued her a notice for inciting hatred among the public after the second part of her song was uploaded.

The song referred to the recent demolition drive in Kanpur, where two women lost their lives.

Reacting to the notice, Singh told ANI, "Everyone knows what happened in Kanpur Rural where two women died during the eviction drive. I wrote a song on it called 'UP Mein Ka Ba - Season 2'. UP Kanpur Rural police came to my house and gave me a notice regarding it."

"In the notice, they asked whether the song was uploaded from my handle or not? Have I sung this song or not? I will answer this after consulting a lawyer. They only like people who praise the government & not people like me who question the government," she added.
The second part of the song spoke about the death of a woman and her daughter during a demolition drive in Kanpur Dehat. The first part spoke of the Covid pandemic and mismanagement. She also spoke about the Morbi bridge collapse ahead of the Gujarat elections in her song 'Gujarat Mein Ka Ba'.

A team of the Kanpur police reached her home on Tuesday night and served the notice under Section `160 of the Code of Criminal procedure (CrPC) seeking details on a series of points about her video that went viral on social media.

The police asked whether it was her in the video and if yes, then whether the videos were uploaded by her only. The police have also asked if the YouTube channel and the Twitter account through which the video was shared belong to her or not, as reported by news agency ANI.

The police have also asked if the lyrics of the videos were written by her and if yes, then does she stand by them? If she has not written the lyrics, then has the lyricist taken your permission, the police asked. The police also asked whether is she aware of the adverse impact of the video on society.

The UP Police have sought an explanation from her through a notice within three days, failure in doing which may result in a legal case under sections of IPC and CRPC being registered against her.

"This song has created enmity and tension in society, and you are legally bound to make your stand clear on the issue. So, you are required to file your reply within three days of receiving the notice," the UP Police's notice read.

"In case, the reply is not found satisfactory. If your reply is not found satisfactory, then a case will be registered under the relevant sections of IPC and CRPC, and proper legal investigation will be carried out," it added.
