WATCH: BJP Chief, Other Leaders Clean Temples With Mops And Brooms After PM Modi's Call For Drive

BJP leaders were seen with mops and brooms to clean up temples in various parts of the country after PM Modi urged citizens to kickstart cleanliness campaigns in temples.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda and other senior leaders engaged in a cleanliness drive of temples in different states following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for a week-long campaign ahead of the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ on January 22. Nadda told the media from the day of Makar Sankranti till January 22, they will conduct a cleanliness drive at temples all over the country.

“Following the directions of PM Modi, the BJP has decided that from Makar Sankranti to January 22 (Ram Mandir Pran Pratishta ceremony), we (party leaders and workers) will conduct a cleanliness campaign at several temples and holy premises in the country,” BJP President JP Nadda told the media, as per news agency PTI.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya held a cleanliness drive as part of the 'Swachhta Abhiyaan' at Balkeshwar Hanuman Temple in Lucknow. While speaking to the media, he said that PM Modi kickstarted the campaign from Panchvati where Lord Ram stayed the longest during the period of exile.

"One of the leading figures in the Ram temple agitation, Paramhans Ramchandra Das Maharaj would often come and stay here to lobby for the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple case hearing. On 30 December, PM Modi called for 'Swachh Mohalla. Swachh Gram. Ayodhya Dham. Jai Shri Ram' campaign from Ayodhya. PM Modi kickstarted this campaign himself from Panchvati, where Lord Ram stayed the longest during his years in exile”, he said, according to news agency ANI.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 'Swachhata Abhiyan' (cleanliness drive) at Nashik's Kalaram temple in Maharashtra on Friday, he urged citizens to kickstart cleanliness campaigns in temples across the country. Citing the upcoming consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, he emphasised the need for a joint endeavour to maintain cleanliness at religious sites.

"I urge everyone that on the occasion of ‘pran pratishtha’ in the Ram Temple, a cleanliness campaign should be carried out in all temples and shrines of the country…Today I have the privilege of visiting Kalaram Temple and cleaning the temple premises,” he was heard saying in the video.

Union Minister Meenakashi Lekhi too held a cleanliness drive at the premises of Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place.
