Joshimath Crisis: Will Design Best Possible Relief Package, CM Dhami Says — Top Points

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that he would visit Joshimath, if required. Meanwhile Uttarakhand govt told Delhi HC that authorities are rehabilitating affected families.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Thursday held a meeting with senior district administration officials on the issue of the sinking of Joshimath. He also held meetings with the Army, Indo-Tibetan Police Force, National Disaster Response Force and scientists from various establishments engaged in landslide investigation, district administration, and police, reported ANI.

An amount of Rs 45 crores has been disbursed by the state government for the special rehabilitation package and grant for the displacement of the affected building owners/families due to landslides in the Joshimath municipality area, said the Chief Minister’s Office in a statement. 

“Today I offered prayers at the Narsingh Temple. I prayed to god to protect the state & resolve this crisis. As we already said the govt will design the best possible relief package for the crisis-hit people as this is a natural disaster,” said CM Dhami. 

Will Visit Joshimath, If Required: Rajnath Singh

Speaking on the issue, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that if required, he will visit Joshimath. 

Uttarakhand govt is working to find a solution to the issue of land subsidence. The central government is providing all possible assistance to the state. If required, I will visit Joshimath. Yesterday, MoS Defence Ajay Bhatt visited the town, he said while speaking to reporters.

Rehabilitating Affected Families: Uttarakhand Govt Tells Delhi HC 

The Uttarakhand Government Thursday told the Delhi High Court that authorities are rehabilitating families that have been affected due to land subsidence in Joshimath, reported PTI. The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force have been deployed in the area, it added. 

The state government said a rehabilitation package is also being prepared and a lot of relief work is going on.

The submission was made before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad which was hearing a petition seeking to direct the Centre to constitute a committee headed by a retired judge to look into the issue of the sinking of Joshimath and rehabilitate the affected families soon.
