Bodies Of Atiq Ahmed's Son Asad, Aide Ghulam Brought To Prayagraj Graveyard For Last Rites Amid Tight Security

The Uttar Pradesh Police has brought the bodies of Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide Ghulam to Prayagraj graveyard for last rites. The police earlier took their bodies to the Prayagraj mortuary.

The Uttar Pradesh Police took the bodies of the mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide Ghulam to the mortuary in Prayagraj in the early hours of Saturday. ANI reported that visuals showed two ambulances and an Uttar Pradesh police van taking the bodies to the mortuary in Prayagraj.

The police have now brought the mortal remains of Asad Ahmed and Ghulam to Prayagraj's Kasari Masari graveyard, where they will be buried.

Both Atiq Ahmed's son Asad and his aide Ghulam wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, were killed in an encounter with UP Special Task Force in Jhansi on Thursday. Police also said that a plan was foiled to help the jailed gangster to escape, reported ANI.

Meanwhile, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were brought to Dhoomanganj Police Station in Prayagraj late Friday night.

As per ANI, State's Special Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar revealed that teams of civil police and special forces were deployed following the intelligence inputs of a plan by Asad to free his father Atiq Ahmed. He was planning to attack a police convoy midway as Atiq was being brought in Uttar Pradesh for a hearing.

"We had information that to help the accused Atiq and Ashraf escape there could be an attack on the police convoy bringing them back to UP in the case (Umesh Pal murder case). In view of this information, teams of civil police and special forces were deployed," said Prashant Kumar.

Elaborating on the encounter, he said that based on the information, two teams were deployed and Asad was intercepted, while he was on a bike along with his aide Ghulam. "Action was taken on the basis of information and at around 12:30 and 1 pm the duo were killed in a retaliatory firing," Kumar said, as quoted by ANI.

He added that the Special Task Force conducted the entire operation. Notably, both Asad and Ghulam carried a reward of Rupees five lakh. The police said that foreign-made weapons were recovered.
