'Because I Am Dalit': UP Minister Dinesh Khatik Resigns On Being Neglected By Officials

The Minister was reportedly upset over not being allocated work in the ministry even after the passing of over 100 days since the government was formed.

New Delhi: State minister in Uttar Pradesh cabinet, Dinesh Khatik has offered his resignation from the post stating that department officials have been ignoring him as he belonged to the Dalit community. In a letter addressed to Union Minister Amit Shah, Minister of State for Jalshakti in the Yogi Adityanath government expressed his desire to resign from the cabinet.

"I was not given any importance because I am a Dalit. I have no authority as a minister. My working as a minister of state is a waste for the Dalit community - I am not called for any meeting and not told anything about my ministry. This is an insult of the Dalit community," Khatik stated in his letter.

The letter has now gone viral on social media, however the minister denied the same when local reporters in his native Meerut district went to seek his reaction on the same, reported news agency PTI. “There is no such issue,” Khatik said while talking to reporters in Meerut, quoted by the news agency.

However, the report citing sources close to the minister said that he has gone to Delhi.

The Dalit minister, who represents the Hastinapur Assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh, claimed that his department officials do not adhere to his orders and neglect him as he belongs to the "downtrodden section of the society", reported news agency IANS.

The Minister was reportedly upset over not being allocated work in the ministry even after the passing of over 100 days since the government was formed. He also skipped the council of ministers meeting held on Tuesday, the IANS report stated.
