13 Killed In Explosions At Firecracker Factories In Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar District

An incident involving twin explosions at separate firecracker factories in Virudhunagar district's Kammapatti village and Sivakasi has resulted in nine deaths. Read on to know more details.

The death toll has risen to 13 as a result of two separate explosions at firecracker factories, one in Kammapatti village and the other in Sivakasi, both in Virudhunagar district. The incident was reported by news agency ANI, citing statements from local police officials and the fire and rescue department. 

The dual explosions had devastating consequences, with five lives lost in the explosion that occurred at the firecracker factory in Kammapatti village of Virudhunagar district, as conveyed by the Fire and Rescue Department to ANI.

According to the Fire and Rescue department, the initial explosion occurred at a firecracker manufacturing facility near Sivakasi in the same district, prompting an immediate response from fire extinguishing units.

Following the first explosion, there was a second, this time at a firecracker factory in Kammapatti village. These tragic events have cast a pall over the region, and investigations are currently underway to determine the causes of the explosions and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Last week's accident at a firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu's Ariyalur district killed nine people and injured several more. According to the Hindustan Times, the accident happened at the Yaazh FireWorks in the Thirumanur area of the district.

According to the report, preliminary reports indicate that untrained workers were mixing chemicals inside the factory when the explosion occurred. When the accident happened on Monday morning, it trapped up to 23 workers inside the factory.

Chief minister M K Stalin announced a payment of Rs 3 lakh to the families of each of the deceased, Rs 1-lakh each to those who suffered serious injuries and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries.

The accident occurred less than 24 hours after a massive fire broke out at a firecracker shop-cum-godown in Attibele in rural Bengaluru near the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border on Saturday, killing 13 people and injuring four others.
