Telangana Thalli statue: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy conducted the Bhumi Puja ceremony on Wednesday at 11 am for the construction of the Telangana Thalli statue at the state Secretariat in Hyderabad. The event marked a significant moment for the people of Telangana, as the statue symbolizes the cultural and historical pride of the state.

The 'Telangana Thalli' statue is set to be inaugurated on December 9 this year, the CM announced. This date holds significance as it marks the 2009 announcement by then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to initiate the formation of Telangana state, as reported by PTI. It also coincides with the birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who played a key role in realizing the long-standing demand for Telangana statehood.

"December 9 is like a festival for the people of Telangana," he said, adding that the statue's inauguration will be a grand event attended by thousands.

In a subtle criticism of the previous BRS government, the CM remarked that despite being in power for a decade and claiming credit for various major constructions, they neglected the 'Telangana Thalli' statue. He accused the previous rulers of behaving as if they were more important than 'Telangana Thalli,' positioning themselves as the state's symbol.

Significance of Telangana Thalli Statue

Telangana Thalli represents the symbolic mother goddess of Telangana and embodies the spirit and aspirations of the people.

Adopted as a cultural icon during the statehood movement, Telangana Thalli is revered as the protector and nurturer of the region, reflecting the unique traditions, dialect, and ethos of Telangana.

Meanwhile, the placement of the statue earlier became a controversy. The BRS alleged that Congress had decided to install former PM and Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi's statue in the place of the location proposed by BRS for Telangana Thalli statue in the Parliament.
