Telangana BJP OBC Morcha Protests At Hyderabad Collector's Office For Implementation Of BC Declaration

In its Backward Classes (BC) Declaration, Congress had promised to increase the BC reservations in local bodies to 42% from the present 23% within six months of assuming power.

The Telangana BJP OBC Morcha staged a protest demanding the state government implement the Backward Classes (BC) Declaration at Hyderabad Collector's office on Tuesday. Earlier, the Congress, in its declaration ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024, had promised to increase quota for BC in local bodies within six months of assuming power from the current 23% to 42%.

According to ANI, Telangana BJP OBC Morcha staged a protest at Hyderabad Collector's office, demanding that the Telangana government implement the Backward Classes (BC) Declaration. In its declaration, Backward Classes (BC) Declaration Congress had promised to increase the BC reservations in local bodies to 42% from the present 23% within six months of assuming power.

Previously, the Congress had pledged to provide reservations for Backward Classes proportionate to their population based on the caste census findings and the BC Commission report within six months of taking office. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while releasing the BC Declaration, reiterated this promise, stating that the quota for BC communities in local bodies would be increased to 42%. Additionally, he announced that Rs 20,000 crore would be allocated annually for the welfare of BC communities.

The party also made community-specific promises to dominant BC communities, including Mudiraj, Yadav/Kuruma, Goud, Munnuru Kapu, Padmashali, Vishwakarma, Rajaka, and Nayee Brahmin, according to a report on Deccan Chronicle.

The Congress formed the government in Telangana after winning Assembly Elections in December last year. The Congress also defeated the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led BRS which ruled the newly-formed state undeterred for a decade.
