BJP-AIADMK Alliance Talks Gain Momentum? EPS Likely To Meet PM Modi In Madurai On April 6
BJP-AIADMK Alliance: While AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami has previously downplayed reports of formal negotiations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently confirmed that talks were ongoing.

As speculation mounts over a potential revival of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) in Madurai on April 6. The meeting is set to take place during the PM’s visit to Tamil Nadu, where he will inaugurate the newly built Pamban railway bridge off the Rameswaram coast.
BJP-AIADMK: Signs of Renewed Alliance?
With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approaching, discussions between the two parties have gained momentum. While EPS has previously downplayed reports of formal negotiations, Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently confirmed that talks were ongoing. The BJP, which aims to strengthen its presence in Tamil Nadu, views the AIADMK as a key ally. However, tensions remain due to AIADMK’s departure from the NDA in 2023, following remarks by state BJP chief K Annamalai that were critical of Dravidian leaders.
Following this, the upcoming meeting between Modi and EPS may be a decisive moment in determining the future of the AIADMK-BJP alliance, reported Deccan Herald.
Earlier this week, senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah and party president JP Nadda, met with EPS in New Delhi, further fueling speculation about a possible political pact. Annamalai also met Shah separately, emphasising that the final decision on the alliance rests with the central leadership.
The visit coincides with the BJP's ongoing process to elect chiefs for 13 state units including Tamil Nadu, reported The Hindustan Times.
PM Modi’s Visit To Tamil Nadu
On April 6, PM Modi will arrive in Tamil Nadu, coinciding with the Ram Navami celebrations. He will offer prayers at the historic Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram before inaugurating the Pamban railway bridge. His visit follows a diplomatic trip to Sri Lanka, from where he will travel directly to Rameswaram.
The visit highlights the BJP’s strategic approach in Tamil Nadu, combining infrastructure development with cultural and religious outreach.
