Suspension Of Mobile Internet, SMS And Dongle Services Extended In Haryana's Nuh Till August 8

Mobile internet, SMS and dongle services will remain shut in the Nuh district of Haryana till August 8 to 'prevent any disturbance of peace and public order'.

Nuh Violence: The suspension of mobile internet, bulk SMS and all dongle services have been extended in Haryana's Nuh till Tuesday, August 8, 2023. Haryana Home Secretary TVSN Prasad, in an order dated 05.08.2023, said that the mobile internet services, bulk SMS (excluding banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services will remain shut till 11:59 PM on August 8 to 'prevent any disturbance of peace and public order'. However, as per the order, individual SMS, mobile recharge, banking SMS, voice calls, internet services provided by broadband and lease lines of corporate and domestic households will continue to function in the 'commerical/financial interest of State and basic domestic needs of individuals'.

Notably, these services were suspended earlier this week after clashes broke out between two communities during a VHP procession in Nuh leading to days of arson in Haryana.

Meanwhile, a total 216 persons have been arrested by the police in connection with Nuh violence and as many as 104 cases have been registered so far, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Saturday, reported news agency PTI. In the wake of Opposition’s demand for a probe into alleged intelligence failure, the minister said he did not have any information about an input on a possible build-up of tension. On the other hand, Haryana authorities demolished several illegal constructions on the third day of its demolition drive in Nuh. According to officials, some of these structures were owned by those who were allegedly involved in the violence, PTI reported.

The Nuh district administration demolished illegal constructions at 12 different places, including on 2.6 acres of land around Nalhar Medical College. "These were illegal constructions. Notices were already given to owners of the demolished structures. The owners of some illegal structures were also involved in the violence during the Braj Mandal religious yatra. The demolition drive will continue," PTI quoted Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ashwani Kumar as saying.
