Sikh Man From Punjab Shot Dead By Terrorists In J&K's Srinagar, Another Injured: Police

The victim, Amritpal Singh from Amritsar, was shot at point-blank range with an AK rifle at Shalla Kadal in Habba Kadal around 7 pm.

New Delhi: Terrorists shot and killed a worker from Punjab and injured another in the Habba Kadal area of Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday, officials said.

The victim, Amritpal Singh from Amritsar, was shot at point-blank range with an AK rifle at Shalla Kadal in Habba Kadal around 7 pm, reported PTI.

According to officials, Singh died on the spot, while another non-local worker, identified as Rohit (25), sustained injuries in the abdomen and is undergoing treatment at SMHS hospital. Rohit also hails from Amritsar.

Kashmir Police in a post on X, said, "Terrorists fired upon 2 persons identified as Amritpal Singh & Rohit, R/O Amritsar at Shaheed Gunj Sgr. In this terror incident, Amritpal Singh succumbed to his injuries while Rohit has been shifted to Hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off. Details shall follow."

This marks the first terrorist attack on a non-local in Kashmir this year. The police have cordoned off the area to track down the assailants. 

Last year, the terrorists carried out several attacks on non-local workers in the valley including in Anantnag and Shopian districts.
