Robbers Shoot Jewellery Shop Owner Dead In Rajasthan's Bhiwadi, Flee With Stolen Goods

Five masked robbers struck a jewellery shop in the Bhiwadi area of Rajasthan's Khairthal-Tijara district last week, and shot the owner dead when he attempted to prevent them from escaping. The incident, which took place on Friday, was caught on a CCTV camera.

According to PTI, the incident occurred around 7.30 pm at Kamlesh Jewellers in the central market of Bhiwadi. When the robbers entered the shop, four people were present inside, including the guard.
They snatched the guard’s gun and took it into the store, and held the employees at gunpoint while they stuffed their bags and sacks with jewellery. The thieves also assaulted the employees with sticks, according to India Today.
The store owner, Jai Singh Soni, attacked the robbers while they were looting the store, but they ran outside and got inside their car. When Jai Singh ran after them and attempted to pull them out of the car, they shot him, injuring him. While being rushed to hospital, he died. His brother Sagar Soni and the guard also sustained injuries after the robbers fired at them, reported India Today.
Further investigation is ongoing, and the police are reviewing CCTV footage from the shop to identify the robbers. According to the police, the robbers were inside the shop for 10 minutes.
India Today quoted Jaipur Range Inspector General of Police Anil Tank, who is monitoring the case, as saying that a case has been registered in the matter. Raids are being conducted with the assistance of police in Haryana, which borders Rajasthan at Bhiwadi, to catch the suspects.
Angry Traders Protest Against The Crime
In protest against the crime, the main market in Bhiwadi remained closed on Saturday, IANS reported.
Local traders gathered in the middle of State Highway 919, which impacted the movement of traffic. Angry traders also surrounded Tijara MLA Baba Balaknath (BJP) who went to the protest site.
The agitation lasted about six hours, the traders ended the protest after the police assured them that "the accused will be arrested within 72 hours", IANS reported.
