‘Heart-Wrenching’: Rape Survivor Shot At, Stabbed By Accused In Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot Meets Kin

The woman, accompanied by her brother on Saturday night, was returning home on a two-wheeler when they were ambushed by Rajendra Yadav and two others, identified as Mahipal Gujral and Rahul Gujral.

New Delhi: A 25-year-old rape survivor sustained severe injuries after being shot at and attacked with a sharp-edged weapon by a man accused of raping her, along with his accomplices in Kotputli-Behror district of Rajasthan, police said on Monday. Former Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot met the victim in Jaipur and expressed his dismay over the incident, saying, "The manner in which she (rape survivor) was attacked and fired upon was heart-wrenching. We have requested the doctors to try their best to save (her) life. Suspending the ASI is not sufficient, there should be a proper inquiry into the incident."

According to PTI, the woman's brother also got injured in the attack and the two are undergoing treatment at Sawai Man Singh Hospital. The three accused have been arrested, police said.  "The main accused Rajendra Yadav was caught on Monday after his leg got amputated after being hit by a train in Jaipur", PTI quoted DGP U R Sahoo as saying.

"The woman, accompanied by her brother on Saturday night, was returning home on a two-wheeler when they were ambushed by Rajendra Yadav and two others, identified as Mahipal Gujral and Rahul Gujral, near Pragpura police station", police said. The Police also added that the accused followed the siblings before the assault, as per PTI's report.

Yadav shot the woman in the back while the other two accused, Mahipal Gujral and Rahul Gujral, stabbed both the woman and her brother with a sharp-edged weapon. The woman sustained multiple injuries in the head, legs, hands, and shoulders, police said.

Rajasthan: Accused Threatened Woman To Withdraw Case Against Him

Notably, an FIR (First Information Report) was registered based on a complaint lodged by the woman's family. According to the FIR, Rajendra Yadav allegedly raped the woman on January 16 last year, resulting in his arrest and subsequent dismissal from his job. However, upon his recent release on bail, Yadav reportedly began threatening the woman to withdraw the case against him, reported PTI.

Yadav attacked her as she did not withdraw the case, the FIR stated. Yadav, Mahipal and Rahul, the other accused individuals, have been apprehended. The FIR has been registered against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation), along with provisions of the Arms Act, as per PTI.

Meanwhile, The state unit of Congress formed a four-member committee. Former Health Minister Raghu Sharma, Congress leader Dharmendra Rathore, Rajasthan Child Protection Rights Commission Chairperson Sangeeta Beniwal and former MLA Indraj Gurjar have been included in the committee. The committee will submit the factual report of the entire matter to the PCC President Govind Singh Dotasra, reported PTI.
