Batala's New Sugar Mill: A Boon for Farmers from Mann Government
The upgraded facility has a crushing capacity of 3,500 tons of sugarcane per day, making it Punjab's first cooperative sugar mill to produce refined sugar.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Maan government is taking significant steps to enhance farmers' incomes. From ensuring adequate irrigation facilities to creating better market access for their produce, the government is actively working towards agricultural growth and prosperity.
A Major Investment of ₹296 Crore
A state-of-the-art sugar mill has been established in Batala with an investment of ₹296 crore. This upgraded facility has a crushing capacity of 3,500 tons of sugarcane per day, making it Punjab's first cooperative sugar mill to produce refined sugar. For the current season, the mill has set a target of crushing 3.5 million quintals of sugarcane.
Ensuring the Best Price for Sugarcane
Punjab now leads the nation in offering farmers the highest price for sugarcane. The state government is providing ₹401 per quintal, ensuring financial stability and growth for farmers. This initiative has strengthened their economic conditions and encouraged more farmers to engage in sugarcane cultivation.
New Employment Opportunities
The Batala sugar mill is set to generate substantial employment opportunities at the local level. In addition to direct jobs within the mill, numerous small and medium-scale businesses will benefit, boosting overall economic activity in the region.
Increase in Sugarcane Cultivation
Thanks to the Maan government’s continuous efforts, sugarcane farming is witnessing a positive shift. Farmers are now more inclined to cultivate sugarcane, leading to an increase in the total cultivation area. In 2024-25, the land under sugarcane farming expanded from 54,302 hectares to 56,391 hectares.
The Maan government’s commitment to ensuring fair prices, technological advancements, and employment opportunities through the new Batala sugar mill is paving the way for sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. These strategic steps are not only enhancing farmers' incomes but also strengthening Punjab’s agro-based economy.
