Punjab Election 2022: Rahul Gandhi Starts Congress' Campaign, Visits Golden Temple In Amritsar
Punjab Elections: The Punjab Congress is grappling with the tussle between its leaders. For Rahul Gandhi, a visit to Punjab is not going to be easy.
Punjab Election 2022: The Congress party is all set to intensify its campaign for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections from today. Senior party leader Rahul Gandhi has begun his Punjab tour. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi along with Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu and other party candidates paid obeisance at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. After this, Rahul Gandhi addressed the party's virtual rally in Jalandhar and flew back to Delhi.
The Congress party had issued a statement saying that Rahul Gandhi would reach Amritsar from Delhi. Later, Rahul Gandhi travelled from Amritsar to Jalandhar.
The grand old party has not yet announced any chief ministerial candidate for the Punjab assembly elections. The Congress party has repeatedly claimed that it is contesting the elections under the collective leadership of Charanjit Singh Channi, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and Sunil Jakhar. But the pressure within the Congress party to declare one of them as the CM candidate is mounting.
Channi and Sidhu are putting pressure on the party.
In the 2017 assembly elections, Rahul Gandhi had declared Captain Amarinder Singh as the CM candidate during his visit to Punjab. Congress leaders were hoping that Rahul Gandhi will make a similar announcement this time also.
Many ministers of the Punjab government have demanded to make Charanjit Singh Channi the face of CM. At the same time, Navjot Singh Sidhu, through his Punjab model, is continuously pressurizing the party high command to make him the face of the CM. However, in the surveys about the CM candidate, Charanjit Singh Channi seems to be overshadowing the rest of the leaders.
